San Antonio KOA Holiday campground

We made it to the campground in San Antonio, but it was quite hectic getting into the park as it seemed over 50 campers were trying to do the same thing. The officials informed us that 120 campers were leaving while 110 were arriving, and it seemed like most of them were arriving at the same time as us. After checking in, we were assigned an escort who led us to our site, where we set up and explored the surroundings, although it was a hot and humid day. However, at night, the weather took a turn and there was an incredible lightning show that we got to witness from the comfort of our camper. The rain poured down heavily, and the wind was strong, accompanied by loud thunder. We were praying that there would be no hail. At one point during the night, the thunder was so strong that it shook our camper. It was an unbelievable experience.

Let's say this was one way to see if the trailer had any leaks. At least that test passed! This morning, it was hard to tell that anything had happened as everything looked normal again. We plan on spending the day exploring the surroundings and doing some laundry.

Eclipse

We watched the total eclipse from the park. What an experience! We were able to see the moon partially cover the sun, and then everything went dark for 4 minutes. It was crazy! We're glad we did this. The street lights are just starting to come on, and it's only 2 in the afternoon. The birds were all quiet and had this weird feeling, hard to explain, almost like a queasy feeling

Critters around Bandera RV--

I'm currently exploring the park, hoping to capture some pictures of the wildlife that inhabits the area. Although I love spotting cardinals, I haven't been able to take a good picture of them yet. However, I'm determined to get one soon. There are also hummingbirds around, but they are much smaller than the ones we have in Sequim. It's quite challenging to get a decent picture of them.

Whenever I stop, I double-check to make sure I'm not near any ant colonies. I don't want them climbing on me.

Snowflake donuts Bandera, Texas

I found a donut shop located just down from the RV park. They sell kolaches which I've never tried before, but they're delicious. Kolaches are like pigs in a blanket - sausage wrapped in a yeasty bun, and some have jalapenos inside them.

Then as I looked up, I saw a shelf behind the counter filled with other types of donuts, not just old-fashioned ones that sat next to the kolaches. The shelf had donut holes and then donuts covered in sprinkles, coconut, chocolate, maple, and even jelly-filled ones! You pick your flavor and they fill it up for you, making the donuts fresh and irresistible. I had a hard time deciding what to buy, but I ended up spending a few dollars and walked out with a smile on my face.

Around Bandera RV Park

We've been staying at the RV park for a couple of days now. We're excited to watch the upcoming eclipse, but I'm hoping that it won't be too cloudy. The park is peaceful and quiet, and slowly filling up with other visitors. One great feature, for pet owners, is the dog park, which is fenced off and has chairs for owners to relax while their dogs play fetch and run around.

We will be here until Tuesday the 9th. So I have been walking around the park and enjoying the wildlife. We have seen herons, heard turkeys (though we haven't seen them yet), hummingbirds, some type of woodpecker, cardinals, and wrens, just to name a few of the birds.

Banderea, Texas

Oh, it feels great not having to get up and hit the road to move to the next place, like we have had the last couple of days. We arrived in Bandera, Texas yesterday after leaving Ozona around 11 am and arriving at 2:30 pm. Set up the camper, and relaxed in the shade, it was 81 degrees outside. Had a cocktail, then headed out to dinner.

KOA Ellensburg Washington

We w oke up this morning to head down the road to Ellensburg, it was 31 degrees outside in Missoula, MT. Oh my--we needed to turn on the fu...
