Country Campground Detroit Lakes MN

We made it! The drive took about 5 hours, with construction and on a bumpy, rough 2-lane highway.

The campground is very nice, and the host was super friendly. He was taking care of the place while his wife was out of town on vacation, and I think he was handling it very well!

He came down on his cart and with his little leaf blower blew off the leaves again that fell from the trees.

He told many stories, one of which was interesting - he uses a clean, not a used, toilet brush. On the nap of the carpet in the back of the van, he brushes the carpet and uses the leaf blower, and the dust/dirt just blows away! Good tip!

He also mentioned that the Wi-Fi and stargazing are absolutely free!

Great to see that a campsite has it's own recycle place!

Oh and did I mention all the way thru South Dakota you see this sign?

On the Road Hwy 200

We took Highway 200 out of the Silver Bay/Duluth area to get to Detroit Lakes, where we will be staying for the night. Some of the leaves around the area are slowly changing. The same is happening up the North Shore. It has been very dry, so I'm not sure if that is affecting the leaves changing. Some of them are changing and then just falling off the trees.

Did I mention that Highway 200 is super bumpy and really needs repair? Can't wait to see how all the things in the camper have shifted and are ready to fall out of the doors as we open them up, as they say, "Please use caution when opening overhead bins, as items may have shifted during the flight!"

Great night for a fire

Baptism River Tettegouche State Park

I took a quick drive to Baptism River and walked on the bridge to check it out. There is an extensive trail system around Tettegouche State Park. They had so much rain this year that at the end of the river leading into Lake Superior, the beach that is generally there was washed away. I suppose in time it will slowly start to form back in.

Black Beach Campground and the beach

I went exploring at the beach and took some photos around the campground. You can either hike down to the lake from the campground or drive there. I would assume that the parking lot gets full in the summer, so it's probably a good idea to walk to the beach. It's not a long hike down to the lake from the campground.

they have quite the 4-wheeler/razor trails around the north shore, there is a trail system right by the campground, so there were a lot of people with their toys and enjoying the trails and the wonderful weather that was happening in the late fall.
