Cascade Campground, Moses Lake, Washington

Heading out for another adventure to Silver Bay, Minnesota.

After spending a weekend at the sprint boat races from the 6th to the 8th, we packed up the camper and hit the road.

We left around 9 AM, and this time the traffic through Seattle wasn't bad at all. We arrived at our destination around 3 PM. The trip took a little longer than expected due to road construction and a car on fire on the interstate, which caused a backup and closed the road to one lane.

We were at a rest stop just outside of Cle Elum, and our friend pulled up. We were like, "This looks like Bill's truck and boat." Sure enough, it was Bill. He was like, "What the hell!" He is headed to Wyoming to do some fishing. Talk about a small world. After a few hello's and hugs we said our see ya later's and on the road we once again.

We arrived at our first stop, Cascade Campground, in Moses Lake, Washington. I'm sure that during the summer this place is bustling! However, right now in the middle of the week, there are only a few of us and two others, along with a few tents, in the tent area of the campground. There are plenty of activities for people to enjoy, such as fishing and swimming.

Sprint Boat Races/Port Angeles

We got the camper all loaded up and ready to go dry camping out at Port Angeles and watch the Sprint Boat Races.

We loaded up the camper and headed out to Port Angeles for a weekend of dry camping to watch the Sprint Boat Races. We left on Friday and returned home on Sunday, accompanied by some friends. We had a fantastic time watching the races, visiting, and enjoying delicious meals such as sausage and egg breakfasts, chicken fried rice, and brats.

This is the track rotation that the boats had to follow, track rotation number 1.

About Sprint Boat's

Sprint boat racing is one of the most unique motorsports in the world.  With a course that consists of a three-foot-deep channel, 20 feet wide, filled with water, wrapped throughout six small islands, creating 13 turns all within a footprint the size of a football field.

The boats in this sport are aluminum hulls that are 12-feet long with a jet pump that moves 600-gallons per second.  The engines that run these water-rockets can range from 400 horsepower in the beginner class to over 1,000 horsepower in the unlimited class. Reaching speeds that take you from zero to 100 mph in three seconds reaching up to 8Gs throughout the 13 turns.

In order to reach these speeds, it requires an above-average responsive navigator to help point the driver throughout the course.  What makes this sport so challenging is the race teams do not receive the official track-rotation, that provides the sequence of turns around the islands, until the night before they race.  The drivers and navigators in the sport is truly what make this unique.  With ages ranging from 19 to 68 years old, it matches seniors against youths and women against men.

It was a fun time. The sun was out during the day, but at night, the wind was blowing and it got rather chilly outside. I'm glad that Erick and Kelsy brought their propane fire pit. We sat around it and had some cocktails! After getting home, we ended up washing the camper and truck. The dust from the dry fields was amazing! We also cleaned up the inside once again, and we'll be ready for the next adventure coming up soon!

Unloading the Camper

Now that we're back home, it's been raining for the past few days. We are grateful to our neighbor who mowed our lawn, or else our grass would have looked like a hayfield. Can't believe how tall it is over 10 inches, where he couldn't reach with the mower and we need to weed whack!

Next up, we will need to unload the camper, clean it up inside, and wash and wax it again. The front of the cap is covered in bugs, so it needs a good scrubbing. I wash all the sheets, towels, rugs, etc., and clean the walls, floors, shower, and other surfaces. I dust everything so that when we go out again, everything is clean, and we just need to load up our food and clothes.

Although we brought generators with us, we never used them. However, on a long trip like that again, we would bring them just in case we need them. You never know what the situation might be.

Jacks down Home

After traveling a total of 7,084 miles, we have finally arrived at our last stop. We have learned so much, from jacks up to jacks down.

The jack stands will be in use for a while. We're not sure where we'll go next, but we'll probably check out some local spots near where we live.

During our trip, we covered a lot of ground, but there is still so much more to explore!
